Shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, a passerby alerted first responders from the Westminster Volunteer Fire Department of a blaze that sent smoke billowing through the air emanating from a two-story home on Bachmans Valley Road in Westminster.
Officials say that it took more than six dozen firefighters less than a half-hour to get the flames under control, but not before it caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to the property.
They made note that a smoke alarm was present, but there was no fire alarm or sprinkler active at the time the fire began spreading.
According to investigators, the fire started outside the home, but the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
